Important information about a new PMI credential

Dear Component Leaders,

PMI is proud to announce that a new credential for individuals managing programs is coming in 2006. With project management’s growing implementation around the world and across industries, PMI continues its leadership in certifications by creating a new credential for the community of program managers.

As generally defined by PMI’s recently performed global role delineation study, program managers are responsible for determining and coordinating the sharing of resources among constituent projects to the overall benefit of the program. The credential for individuals managing programs will become a market-recognized professional credential from the world’s largest project management organization through which candidates can demonstrate their competence as a program manager.

Candidates’ competence will be evaluated through a sequence of assessments:

The initial assessment of competence occurs through the application process. Prior to a candidate becoming eligible to pursue this credential they will be evaluated through an extensive application process including reviews of education and a review of their professional work experience by a panel of program managers.
The second level of competence assessment occurs with the multiple-choice exam in which candidates will be called upon to demonstrate their ability to apply their knowledge to a variety of situational or scenario-based questions.
The third competence assessment occurs through a multi-rater assessment (similar to a 360 degree process) in which a team of raters that the candidate selects will be evaluating their competence in a work environment to perform germane tasks of a program manager as defined through the examination specification.
A Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential is not required to apply for this new credential.

PMI’s vast network of Registered Education Providers (R.E.P.s) and Components will have the opportunity to offer candidates of this new credential comprehensive examination preparation courses around the globe. To maintain an active credential, individuals will be asked to show their commitment to project management as well as to their organization by expanding their professional knowledge through a Continuing Certification Program (CCR) similar to the PMP CCR Program. Classes for those with this new credential in which a credential holder can earn PDUs may also be offered by many of the same R.E.P.s who offer examination preparation for the new credential.

PMI is excited about the possibilities of credentialed project team members, project managers and program managers working together utilizing knowledge and techniques from the project management body of knowledge to achieve organizational success. More information will be available in the coming months including specific eligibility requirements, application process and information to assist trainers in the development of their exam preparatory courses. PMI Global Congress

El Congreso Global del PMI Latinoamérica 2006, tendrá lugar en Santiago Chile, demostrando una vez más como está creciendo el Project Management como profesión alrededor del mundo.

Mientras que los capítulos del PMI se centran en el Project Management en áreas locales, los congresos ayudan a apoyar y expandir el crecimiento en regional. Cada Congreso Global del PMI ofrece sesiones educativas, oradores, exhibiciones y oportunidades de trabajo en conjunto entre grandes áreas geográficas.

Después del éxito del último congreso en la Ciudad de Panamá, el PMI se complace en anunciar que Santiago, Chile, será el lugar donde se llevará acabo el Congreso Global 2006 Latinoamérica, a realizarse el 6 y 8 de Noviembre en el Grand Hyatt Santiago. El congreso constará de eventos de networking, un hall de exhibición lleno de información para todos los participantes y 52 presentaciones dentro de 12 áreas de interés.

El llamado a nuevas propuestas de presentaciones para el congreso comenzará a las 24:00 GMT del Domingo 12 de Febrero y cerrará a las 24:00 GMT del Domingo 9 de Abril. Las presentaciones pueden ser entregadas en español, portugués o inglés.
